Whittaker & Co was established in 1991 in South Cumbria as an Independent Firm of Surveyors, Valuers & Auctioneers, with the practice principally covering South Cumbria and Lancashire.
We aim to provide a comprehensive range of professional services for private individual's business as reflected by our quality client base. Our commitment is to provide a personal, traditional, helpful service at very competitive rates with a good depth of local knowledge and expertise in the area.
The practice is principally operated by Colin Whittaker FRICS. After leaving the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, he qualified as a Land Agent and is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. He gained a wide spectrum of experience having worked in modern and traditional Land Agency and Chartered Surveyors offices in Derbyshire, Lancashire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire before moving to Kendal and subsequently setting up the practice of Whittaker & Co. in 1990.

Whittaker & Co carries out a comprehensive, professional service for the client, including:
- Discussions with the Acquiring Authority regarding its proposed route, possible route changes, accommodation works etc.
- Negotiations regarding Capital payments and assessments and accommodation works, requirements and monetary payments
- Discuss and agree drainage prior to entry and agree the basis of compensation for alterations required to the farming/business system
- Check and agree the pre-entry photographic and written schedule of condition
- Advise the client as to the keeping of records, detailed diary and photographic evidence in order to maximise the compensation
- Deal with all necessary day to day problems on behalf of the farmer/owner/occupier during the construction period
- Advise as to reinstatement matters
- Submit and negotiate compensation claims and negotiate a fair settlement to cover for all losses incurred etc.
